Our Story
Sunrise Seating began with a simple idea: why settle for furniture that doesn’t quite fit when you can build exactly what you want? When my girlfriend and I were looking for new furniture for our living room, we struggled to find something that had the right style, size, and overall look for our space. After searching through furniture stores and coming up empty-handed, the idea came up to simply build it ourselves. That project sparked something much bigger. With my father, Jamie, and I already having a strong foundation in upholstery and woodworking, we saw an opportunity to take our experience and turn it into a business focused on building truly custom furniture.
Before becoming Sunrise Seating, the business started as Sunrise Upholstery, primarily focusing on automotive and marine upholstery. My father has more than 35 years of experience in the upholstery industry, and his knowledge and craftsmanship are at the heart of everything we do. Over the course of his career, he has worked on countless upholstery projects, developing a deep understanding of materials, construction, comfort, and the attention to detail that goes into producing quality work. I have learned the trade directly from him while bringing my own background in business, woodworking, and design to the company. Together, we combine decades of hands-on upholstery experience with a fresh approach to furniture design and construction.
As we began building more furniture, we realized that custom furniture was where we wanted to take the business. Rather than simply reupholstering existing pieces, we wanted to build furniture from the ground up , creating the frame, selecting the materials, designing the shape and dimensions, and finishing each piece with upholstery chosen specifically by the customer. That led us to transition from Sunrise Upholstery to Sunrise Seating, reflecting what the business had grown into.
Today, my father and I run Sunrise Seating together, building custom sofas, sectionals, chairs, ottomans, restaurant booths, and more right here in Nova Scotia. Every piece is built with the same attention to quality and craftsmanship that has been developed over more than 35 years in the upholstery trade. Because we are a fully custom furniture shop, we aren't limited to what is available on a showroom floor, if you have a specific style, size, fabric, layout, or idea in mind, we can build it. What started with a search for the perfect piece of furniture for our own living room has grown into a family business built around craftsmanship, experience, and the belief that your furniture should be made for your style, your space, and your needs.
